Yesterday the past and present group went to The Buried village. When we got to the door this lady popped out the door.she was dressed up in olden day clothes. Then she took us in a room and told a story about when Mt Tarawera erupted and told us how much people died and how frightened they were. Then we had morning tea. After we went for a walk on the walk it was cool and fun. Then we went back into the museum and watched a a video my heart was beating because it was scary and because it was really dark. My favourite part was when we watched the video.

At the trip to the buried village,I learnt that when the volcano erupted the volcano killed everybody that was close to the lake rotomahana. I also learnt that in the olden days the women wore long sleeved dresses, The women had to do chores one of them were pumping the water in buckets and pumping the handle up and down. We took some photos of the Staff ladies and saw their amazing dresses Debonaire and Annika

Kia ora Whanau
Welcome to 2016.  It is a new year with new things happening.  We are both unsure and excited at the same time.  There have already been a few changes. We have new staff, new class names and new team names.
The bilingual classes collectively are now called Kaimanga Reo which depicts the feeding or nurturing of knowledge and learning.  Space 7 with Whaea Liz is now called Ana Reo.  This is symbolic of Tunohopu's cave and denotes a place of nurturing, safety and encouraging.
Space 8 & 9 with Whaea Mel and Matua Mikaere are now called Kamaka Reo.  Kamaka is a rock and talks about a foundational rock to build on.  So we build on the foundation that has already been laid out in Ana Reo.  Together we build something strong and enduring as we aspire to create life long learners.
We are looking forward to a great year of rich, relevant, contextualised learning. A year with more opportunities for student agency or student self directed learning.  Empowering the students to take responsibility for their planning, learning and goal setting.
Please remember that the door is always open to parents who would like to come in and discuss any aspect of our child's learning.
Nga mihi
Mel Kara raua ko Mikaere Norris
